Taiwan - a brief history The island of Taiwan was mainly inhabited by Taiwanese aborigines until the Dutch landed on the island in the 17th century. It ruled this isaland from 1624 to 1662. The Qing Dynasty of China conquered Taiwan in 1683. By the time Taiwan was ceded to Japan in 1895 (and it ruled this island until 1945) , the majority of Taiwan's inhabitants were Han Chinese. The Republic of China (ROC) was established in China in 1912 after overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. At the end of World War II in 1945, Japan surrendered Taiwan to ROC. Following the Chinese civil war, the Communist Party of China took full control of mainland China and founded the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. The ROC then relocated its government to Taiwan. The economy of Taiwan grew impressively well from the 1970s. Its jurisdiction was confined to Taiwan and its surrounding islands. . In 1971, the PRC replaced ROC seat at the United Nations. Taiwan - today |

Taiwan's fishing industry is very advanced and well equipped. Some of the fishing methodology is in fact inherited from the Janpanese who introduced them during their occupation of Taiwan from 1895 to 1945 |
The railway lines connect the towns and cities along the coast line of the entired Taiwan island. There are highways that run from Taipei city in the north to Kaohsiung city in the south on the western part of Taiwan. However there is no highway running from the north to the south on the eastern section. Hence the railway plays an important transportation linkage of the towns on the eastern coast. |

The Peacock Peacocks are known for their iridescent tails. Technically peacocks refer to male birds. Females are peahens and together they are called peafowl. There are two familiar peacock species. The blue peacock, found in India and the green peacock, found in Myanmar. Peafowl have been admired by humans and kept as pets for thousands of years. The white peacock seen here (Peacock Garden in Sun Moon Lake) is a distinct rare sight. The peacock spreads its brilliant fan-like tail to entice the female birds. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, color, and quality of these outrageous feather tails.能有机会目睹雄白孔雀展开尾毛,是一个难遇到的时机,它象征吉祥预兆
